Nepotism occurs when relatives are in the same chain-of-command. A prospective employer or management official or supervisor with authority to take personnel management actions, may not select a relative for a position anywhere in the organization under his or her jurisdiction or control under the agreement of The Florida Work Experience Program with Miami Dade College. They, or other hiring officials having the authority to appoint, employ, promote, or advance persons or to recommend this action, may not advocate or recommend a relative for a position or submit a financial reimbursement request to MDC under the Florida Work Experience Program. Relatives are defined as follows:

Employment opportunities within the FWEP program are not and should not be based upon or influenced by family relationships. For purposes of this policy, a person is considered to be under the administrative supervision of his or her immediate supervisor and also of supervisors at higher levels within the organizational lines of the particular department or areas of employment. Miami Dade College reserves the right to deny entry, reimbursements, or employment placement whenever a hiring official proposes, to employ a person, or to continue the employment of a person, in a position where he or she is or would be under the administrative supervision of anyone to whom he or she is related in any manner specified in paragraph 1.
Internal MDC Employee Addendum
In addition, it is the policy of Miami Dade College that no person currently employed by the college and who also is related as father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, husband, wife, son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandparents, or such persons related by marriage, enter the Florida Work Experience Program as a prospective employer. This policy is not to be mistaken by designated departments of “On Campus” employment where the nepotism rules still apply. Instead, this internal addendum is put in place to avoid any conflicts of interest and or any possible accountability issues between Miami Dade College and the Florida Department of Education.
By signing and dating this Nepotism policy, the prospective employer agrees to the terms outlined as they pertain to the employment of Miami Dade College students participating in the Florida Work Experience Program.
