Rules and Responsibilities:
1. Your duties may vary widely and will be assigned by the department supervisor. You are encouraged to seek additional work when assigned tasks are completed. Your assigned duties are your first responsibility while at work.
2. Your working hours will be scheduled at the beginning of each term by your supervisor and they will be based on office need, your award, and your course schedule.
**Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times**
3. Student employees must complete 90 days of consecutive work in the current role before applying for other promotional opportunities at Miami Dade College.
4. Please ensure that your work schedule does not conflict with your class hours. You should not report to work when you are scheduled to be in class. If a class is canceled, please provide your supervisor a note from your professor within a week.
5. Your assigned duties are your first priority while at work. If you complete all work assignments and there is a down time in your department, check with your supervisor for additional duties.
6. You must maintain at least part time enrollment (6 credits) and maintain satisfactory academic progress to remain eligible for employment. (Please notify financial aid when you fall below six credits). International students must maintain at least 12 credits for Fall, at least 12 credits for Spring and at least 6 credits for Summer.
7. Visiting with friends while on duty is not allowed, unless a project is assigned (i.e. college fair, job fairs, expos, etc.). You are expected to remain in the department’s work area.
8. Maintain a professional attitude at all times. Treat others with respect and courtesy at all times, despite any difficult situations.
9. When answering the phone, introduce yourself and provide department's name, speak clearly, use proper language and provide assistance in a courteous manner.
10. Personal calls should only be made for emergency reasons and with the approval of your supervisor. Cell phones are not to be used during office hours (except in the event of an emergency).
11. Observing confidentiality in business related matters is a crucial office policy. Everything is considered confidential and discussing office matters or private information (student grades, financial matters, personal records, etc.) with individuals outside of the office, could lead to termination. Do not discuss office affairs outside the office.
12. The office computers should only be used for office matters with the approval of your supervisor. Do not use office computers for personal reasons (ex. Internet, email, homework or instant messages).
13. All office staff is required to dress appropriately for the office environment at all times (no short shorts, mini-skirts, tight clothing, midriff tops, low tops attire, etc.).
14. Student should not begin employment until effective start date is provided by Recruting Services and onboarding is completed with Financial Aid office.
15. Onboarding is mandatory for new Federal Work Study student assistants and it needs to be completed before students reports to first day of work. The hiring supervisor is responsible for communicating this requirement to the student. Financial Aid office will provide onboarding details to the hiring department and student.

Student employees must be treated with respect and courtesy at all times.
- Student employees have the right to be paid biweekly at least the minimum wage in effect at the time of employment for all hours worked. In addition, by federal law, a student’s wages may only be garnished to pay any costs of attendance that the student owes the school. Miami Dade College must oppose any garnishment order received for any other type of debt.
- When termination by the employer is a necessary measure, the employer and the employee should meet to discuss the reasons for termination before it takes place. In addition, the financial aid office should be notified and sent all appropriate documents for the termination.
