The instructions below apply to the student and spouse (if the student is married).

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid asks you, "Did or will the student file a 2022 IRS Form 1040 or 1040-NR?", "Did or will the student file a 2022 joint tax return with their current spouse?". You indicated on your 2024-2025 FAFSA that you (and/or your spouse) have/will file a 2022 tax return. According to the Department of Education, we must request documentation supporting the information listed on your FAFSA.

As part of federal student aid eligibility, students, and spouses (as appropriate), will be required to consent and approve sharing and importing income and tax information from the IRS to the FAFSA form, even if the attempt to obtain or use such data is ineffective. If the student an spouse filed separate 2022 IRS income tax returns, both must provide consent and approval to share and import income and tax information from the IRS.

Please Note:

If you and your spouse did not file a joint tax return, you must both submit a copy of your IRS Tax Return Transcript or Tax Return and W2s.
If you and/or your spouse filed, or will file, an amended 2022 IRS Tax Return, you must request an IRS Record of Account instead of an IRS Tax Return Transcript.

Choose one of the following methods to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript:

Online: Go to www.irs.gov, select "Get Your Tax Record" and request the "IRS Tax Return Transcript." Transcripts are available in real-time in PDF format.
Phone: Call 1.800.908.9946 to submit your request using an IRS automated process. Allow 5-10 business days after request is submitted.
Mail: Submit IRS Form 4506T or 4506T-EZ (available from IRS website). Allow 30 calendar days from the time the IRS receives the request.

IRS Tax Return (do not submit form without physically signed tax return attached)

You should submit a physically signed copy of your 2022 Tax Return(s) including all schedules and W-2's
We will accept the preparers signature in lieu of yours only if it has the name & PTIN of the preparer OR has the SSN/EIN & has been signed, stamped, or printed with their name and address
