Admission to the LLM program is highly competitive. To be admitted to the online LLM in Global Antitrust & Economics, applicants must possess a degree from a law school or other experience outside the United States (U.S.) that is deemed acceptable by the associate director of graduate admissions as equivalent to an ABA accredited JD program. All applicants for admission must have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, high academic standing, and professional achievements or positions indicating the applicant's capacity for performing master's-level work.
This program is not eligible for F-1 visa students; please apply to the Residential LLM in US Law program through LSAC.org to qualify for an F-1 visa.
The deadlines for the application are:
- Spring: December 1st
- Fall: August 1st
Late applications may be considered on a case-to-case basis.
Admission Requirements for All Applicants
Applications are not evaluated until all required supporting documents have been received. For guaranteed consideration, the applicant is responsible for ensuring that application materials are received by Scalia Law School at George Mason University prior to the appropriate deadline. Items 1 through 6 are required from all LLM applicants:
1. Application
All applicants apply electronically through this portal. A completed application form will be sent to the law school electronically. Please do not send us a paper copy of your electronically submitted application. There is no application fee.
2. Transcripts
All applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (undergraduate and law or equivalent) before the start of the semester. Applicants may upload unofficial transcripts for the admissions review process; however, if admitted to the LL.M. program, official transcripts must be submitted to the admissions office before the first day of classes. Digital official transcripts should be sent to lawgradm@gmu.edu.
3. 500-Word Statement
The applicant is required to submit a 500-word statement of educational and professional goals, double-spaced, that will serve as both a statement of purpose and a writing sample. The thoughts and words of the 500-word statement must be uniquely those of the applicant. With the exception of basic proofreading, no other(s) may assist in the creation of this statement.
4. Résumé/CV
The applicant must submit a resume detailing the applicant's educational and professional experience and achievements. There is no page limit.
5. English Proficiency Exam
For applicants whose first language is not English, a current TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo score showing sufficient proficiency in the English language is required. Scores required:
- TOEFL: Minimum of 90 in the iBT test (100 or above highly preferred)
- IELTS: Minimum of 6.5 (7.5 or above highly preferred)
- Duolingo: Minimum of 110
6. Credential Equivalency Report
- The required information in the student’s transcript
- The student really attended the institution
- How the academic performance relates in a US context
For admission, applicants may upload unofficial transcripts for the admissions review process; however, if admitted to the LL.M. program, the credential equivalency report must be submitted to the admissions office before the end of the first term.
