The Population Health Fellowship (PHF) Program is a new opportunity for Mason nursing students to gain additional exposure in public and population health concepts within community and longitudinal primary care clinical experiences in rural and/or underserved settings. Made possible through a four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health Resources and Services Administration, this program provides a $5,000 stipend, divided across multiple semesters. Participants are selected based on the application criteria and the process outlined below, and must consent to uphold the standards and responsibilities outlined below in order to participate in the PHF program. Applying by August 17, 2018 is encouraged, but applications will also be accepted on a rolling basis as funding is available. Fall 2018 participants will be notified of their selection status in August 2018.
Stipend
A cumulative stipend in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to each student accepted into the Population Health Fellowship (PHF) Program, divided across consecutive semesters. This funding will be directly transferred to each participant’s student account at the start of each semester to offset the costs of tuition and academic expenses.
Trainee Responsibilities
Standards and responsibilities of each program participant include the following:
- Attend supplemental program training, to include additional coursework or continuing education
- Development of a Quality Improvement Project for the Mason and Partners (MAP) Clinics
- Weekly journal submission tracking hours, clinical sites, preceptor data, and clinical practice competencies
These standards are continuously assessed by the selection committee, and participants who fall below the expectations will not be permitted to renew their participation in the program for the following semester.
