Paramedic Program Application

It is required that all Paramedic Program applicants read the following sections of this guide before applying.

Application Process for Accredited Yavapai College Paramedic Program

1. Students must first apply for admission to Yavapai College. To begin the process, visit www.yc.edu/become.

2. Admission to the Paramedic Program is by application only. To be eligible, applicants must hold a current EMT certification through either the NREMT or the State of Arizona.

3. The program spans two semesters and includes a minimum of 1,000 combined hours of didactic instruction, clinical rotations, and agency ride time.

4. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 0800–1800.

5. The application window for the Paramedic Program opens January 1st and closes on April 1st at 1700.

6. Only complete applications will be reviewed for consideration.

7. Applications received after the deadline will be placed on a waitlist.

8. All accepted students are required to pass a 10-panel drug screen and background check, which will be completed during orientation.

9. Once the application period has closed, candidates will be notified by email of their acceptance status.

10. All accepted students will receive dates for mandatory orientation. scheduled in June and July. Attendance to one orientation date is required.

Program Goal

“To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.”

Program Description

The Paramedicine Certificate Program is a 9-month program designed to prepare students for entry-level careers as paramedics. The program admits one new cohort each fall semester.

The certificate program requires completion of core paramedic courses combined with extensive clinical and field internship hours. Clinical rotations associated with later semesters may begin earlier than the official Yavapai College semester dates in order to meet required field experience and patient contact hours. Vacations during semesters will not be approved; students are encouraged to plan time off between semesters.

The program integrates classroom instruction, simulation lab training, and hands-on clinical/field experience with the help of our agency partners. This model provides students with the strong educational foundation and practical skills needed to function as independent practitioners in the field upon graduation.

Graduates of the program are eligible to:

Receive a Certificate in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedicine.
Sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic Examination.
Apply for Arizona Department of Health Services Paramedic Certification.
Apply their certificate coursework toward the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedicine. General education classes required for the AAS degree may be completed either before or after the certificate program.

Location Offered
The Paramedicine Certificate Program is offered at the Prescott Valley Center. Students are required to provide their own transportation to off-campus clinical and field rotations.

The Yavapai College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

SELECTION CRITERIA SCORING NOTES

Encourages Early Submission: Applicants who submit their completed applications earlier receive more points, promoting timely and organized submissions.
Application Period: January to April.
Tie-Breaker: If applicants have the same total score, priority is given to the earlier submittal date.

Proof of a Two-dose series MMR or Titier
Proof of a Two-dose series of Varicella or Titer
Proof of a Negative TB skin test or chest x-ray (Must be within 6 months of October 1st of the program year)
Proof of Tdap Vaccination- (Must be within 9 Years of program start date)
Proof of Hep B three-dose series or two-dose series (or a YC exemption provided at orientation)
Proof of Current Flu shot (or a YC exemption provided at Orientation)
Proof of COVID-19 Vaccine card (or YC exemption provided at Orientation)
Proof of Current State EMT card
Proof of Current BLS provider card
Proof of Government ID
Copy of Current Health Insurance
Accuplacer Reading Exam, High School Diploma, or an Associate's degree or Higher. (Candidates who need an Accuplacer reading exam must schedule with the YC testing center. This may be scheduled at the Prescott Testing Center (928)776-2200 or Verde Valley Testing Center (928)634-6561. Please call the testing center to schedule. Once completed, you must send in a copy of your score. A Minimum Passing Score of 236 or higher is required.)

Vaccination Record Validation and Verification Statement

The Yavapai College Paramedic Program reserves the right to utilize any means necessary to validate and verify the authenticity of submitted vaccination records. This process ensures compliance with clinical agency requirements and maintains the integrity of health and safety standards for all participants.

As part of the verification process, the program may:

Directly contact the issuing healthcare provider, clinic, or agency from which the vaccination records were obtained.
Request confirmation of record authenticity via phone calls, emails, or official correspondence with the issuing entity.
Submit a copy of the vaccination record to the issuing agency for formal validation.
Verify documentation through state immunization registries or other official record-keeping systems.

Failure to provide valid, verifiable, and official vaccination records may result in denial of clinical placement and/or ineligibility for program participation. Students are responsible for ensuring that all records submitted are authentic, legible, and meet the requirements set forth by clinical partners.

The program retains the right to reject any vaccination record that cannot be validated or does not meet clinical agency standards.
