TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program Application

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is 100% federally funded through the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV of the Higher Education Act. TRIO SSS provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.

Our program offers an interconnected series of academic support services, including study skills development, course tutoring, individualized academic advising, career guidance, campus visits, student success workshops, financial literacy counseling, and transfer planning.

Who is Eligible for TRIO SSS? (Note: Applicants must be accepted to OCC and registered for classes prior to applying).

Eligibility for TRIO Student Support Services is governed strictly by federal regulations. To qualify for enrollment, an applicant must meet all of the following foundational requirements:

• Be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen (Permanent Resident, and those fully granted Asylum and Refugee status tend to fit within Eligible)

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate program at OCC.

• Have NOT previously earned a collegedegree from OCC or another postsecondary institution (federal regulations restrict grant resources to students pursuing their first postsecondary credential).

In addition to the requirements above, applicants must meet at least one of the following federal eligibility criteria:

1. First-Generation College Student: Neither parent/legal guardian has completed a four-year bachelor’s degree.

2. Income Eligibility: Family taxable income meets federal income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education.

3. Documented Disability: Registered with OCC’s Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR).

Application & Enrollment Disclaimer Submitting an application does not guarantee admission to the program. Enrollment decisions are made in strict compliance with federal grant regulations and program capacity limits. Applications may be approved, provisionally approved, waitlisted, or declined based on verified eligibility. Under federal law, if a participant's eligibility status changes or if a prior degree is completed, the program must update or adjust the student's enrollment status accordingly.

With my signature, I am granting all TRIO SSS personnel access to the information contained on this form and in the OCC system (i.e., transcripts/registration information, grades, placement scores, and more) for the purpose of program, recording, tracking, and reporting as required by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, I allow OCC TRIO personnel to track my educational progress as they relate to the TRIO program using phone, email, or other digital mediums.
