Line-Worker Program Eligibility Requirements and Essential Job Functions Include:
- Class is 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. - 3 p.m, Friday most weeks. Class #1 is January 5, 2026 - March 13, 2026 and Class #2 TBD is March 30, 2026 – June 5, 2026 at Trenholm State Community College’s Patterson Site (3920 Troy Highway) – Building N
- Must be 18 years old on or before January 5, 2026
- Climb and work suspended above ground up to 100 or 200 feet depending on type of Line Work
- Students weigh no more than 280 pounds due to OSHA restrictions of equipment
- Physical fitness that requires lifting equipment weighing 50-pounds or more
- Required to take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE 11) assessment that measures Math and Reading skills
- Ability to earn Commercial Driver's License (CDL). The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires a physical before a Commercial Driver's Permit will be issued.
- Possible CDL health dis-qualifiers: epilepsy, kidney disease, narcolepsy or sleep apnea, color blindness, blind in one eye, must be able to hear all sounds 40 decibels or less, heart disease or hypertension, severe respiratory condition, loss of use of extremity, diabetes currently requiring insulin, congestive cardiac failure, pacemakers, orthopedic or vascular disease and psychiatric disorder; just to name a few
- Submit to drug screen/DOT physical/Motor Vehicle Report
- Ability to earn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid Certificate
- Ability to earn OSHA 10 Safety Certificate
- Program cost is approximately $4,150 (Financial assistance and scholarships may be available.)
