The Gordon State College Alumni Association in conjunction with the Foundation Board Event and Recognition Committee presents the Outstanding Young Alumnus and Outstanding Alumnus Awards to outstanding Gordon State College alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professional careers while also serving as leaders and role models to strengthen the mission and vision of Gordon State College.

Nominations will be accepted from March thru December each year. Each candidate is carefully assessed to determine the degree to which they fulfill each of the requirements according to the criteria established. Winners will be announced each year at the Heart for Gordon Gala.
The Outstanding Alumnus Awards are awarded based on the following set of criteria:

- Recipients must have a history of actively supporting Gordon State College students, faculty, staff, and the community.
- Recipients must contribute time and energy to improve the quality of life for others, specifically Gordon State College students, within the community.
- Recipients must demonstrate a strong passion and outspoken advocacy for the advancement of the vision and mission of Gordon State College.
- Recipient must be under 40 years of age (Young Alumnus Award Only).
